Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Shaoying Ma. I am a Pelotonia Fellow at The James – Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) and Center for Tobacco Research (CTR).
I received my Ph.D. degree in Economics from The Graduate Center, City University of New York, in September 2020. In my doctoral dissertation, I studied paid sick leave policies in the U.S. and their impacts on workers’ behaviors. During my doctoral studies, I also worked as a research coordinator at the New York University Perlmutter Cancer Center, examining age, income, and racial disparities in breast cancer management.
Since joining OSUCCC and CTR, my research has primarily focused on substance use behaviors and regulatory policies. My two recent co-authored studies on e-cigarette taxation and pricing have both been published in Tobacco Control, a top peer-reviewed journal in tobacco research. I am funded by the Pelotonia Fellowship Program at OSUCCC to study LGBTQ tobacco use disparities in the U.S.
