Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Shaoying Ma. I am a second-year Postdoctoral Scholar at The James – Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC) and Center for Tobacco Research (CTR).

I received my Ph.D. degree in Economics from The Graduate Center, City University of New York, in September 2020. In my doctoral dissertation, I studied paid sick leave policies in the U.S. and their impacts on workers’ behaviors. During my doctoral studies, I also worked as a research coordinator at the New York University Perlmutter Cancer Center, examining age, income, and racial disparities in breast cancer management.

Since joining OSUCCC and CTR, my research has primarily focused on substance use behaviors and regulatory policies. My recent co-authored study on electronic cigarettes and taxation policies has been published in Tobacco Control, a top peer-reviewed journal in tobacco research. My research on price promotion activities in online vape shops was the first place winner in Population Sciences category at The James – OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center Annual Scientific Meeting in 2021.
