Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Shaoying Ma. I am an Assistant Professor in the TSET Health Promotion Research Center (HPRC) and the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) and Stephenson Cancer Center (SCC). I received my Ph.D. in Economics in 2020 from the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY), with an emphasis on health and labor economics. During my doctoral studies, I also worked as an Adjunct Lecturer at CUNY, and a Research Coordinator at the New York University Perlmutter Cancer Center.

My research lies at the intersection of health economics and substance use, with a focus on tobacco control policies regulating novel products in the marketplace, such as e-cigarettes and oral nicotine pouches. Leveraging a variety of methodologies, including causal inference, qualitative interviews, stated preference choice experiments, and machine learning, my goal is to advance cancer prevention and control in different populations.

When I’m not doing research, I like to read, write fictions, travel, and enjoy time with my cat Emma.
