Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Shaoying Ma. I am a Research Scientist at the Center for Tobacco Research of the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC). I received my Ph.D. in Economics in 2020 from the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY), with an emphasis on health and labor economics. During my doctoral studies, I also worked as an Adjunct Lecturer at CUNY, and a Research Coordinator at the New York University Perlmutter Cancer Center.

My passion for health equity has led me to my current research interest in health policy and substance use behaviors. I make use of my skills in economics, regulatory science, and preference research to study tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use in different population groups, such as youth and LGBTQ+ communities. My goal is to bring rigorous scientific evidence that informs policymaking, reduces health disparities, and advances cancer prevention and control.

When I’m not doing research, I like to read, write fictions, explore local coffee shops, and enjoy time with my cat Emma.
