Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Shaoying Ma. I am a Research Scientist at the Center for Tobacco Research of the Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center (OSUCCC). I received my Ph.D. in Economics in 2020 from the Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY), with an emphasis on health and labor economics. During my doctoral studies, I also worked as an Adjunct Lecturer at CUNY, and a Research Coordinator at the New York University Perlmutter Cancer Center.

My passion for health equity has led me to my current research interest in regulatory policies and their impacts on substance use behaviors. I make use of my skills in economics, regulatory science, and preference research to study tobacco, alcohol and cannabis use among LGBTQ+ populations. My goal is to bring rigorous empirical evidence that informs policymaking and reduces health disparities experienced by the LGBTQ+ community.

When I’m not doing research, I like to read, write fictions, explore local coffee shops, and enjoy time with my cat Emma.
